Help Save Your Local Homebase

Dear Planning Inspector,

Local residents are fighting to save our local Homebase store. We believe the application to redevelop the store should be considered inappropriate development, which “would result in the unjustifiable loss of a commercial retail use which could not be necessarily placed anywhere else in Saffron Walden” as noted by Uttlesford District Council, in its decision notice.

We know that Homebase is committed to its future in Saffron Walden and does not want to vacate the site. The store also employs 25 team members. In light of there being very few retailers left in Saffron Walden, many team members may struggle for future nearby employment should the store close.

As well as servicing the local community with home and garden products, the store also raises money for a range of charities and is involved in a number of local initiative. Saffron Walden’s Homebase donates all unsold cut Christmas trees to Linton Zoo for the lions to graze on and offers free car parking for the fireworks evening.

The original planning application resulted in over 800 letters of objection from the local community and around 5,000 petition signatures. Please take these views on board when making a decision.

Thank you.

Thank you for your continued support.
